Cody, WY : A 28-year-old Cody man died in a rear-end collision on US 14 on Monday, January, 22nd 2018
A 28-year-old Cody man died Monday in a rear-end collision on US 14 near Greybull.
Simon Augedahl was pronounced dead at the scene after his 1998 GMC pickup rammed into the back of a trailer attached to a semi truck, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers responded to the scene at milepost 16 at 3:28 p.m.
According to the report, the 1999 Kenworth semi truck and trailer had pulled into a closed business to make a U-turn.
The driver of the semi truck could not pull his vehicle all the way through the lot because of snow in the parking lot, so he decided to back his combination unit out of the parking lot and onto US 14 while his passenger got out to flag traffic.
The semi had completed backing out of the parking lot, and the passenger got back into the vehicle. The semi began to pull away westbound on US 14 when Augedahl’s truck struck it.
Augedahl was the second highway fatality in the state for 2018. There were also two fatalities in 2017 at this point, three in 2016 and seven in 2015.
